This Waitress Went Viral After She Allegedly Got Fired For Confronting A Man Who Didn’t Tip, And Now People Who Don’t Tip Are Having A Complete Meltdown About Why It Shouldn’t Exist

Nearly two-thirds of Americans feel tipping culture has “gotten out of control,” according to a recent survey from Bankrate. In addition, about 25% of people report tipping less or not at all when faced with preset prompts on iPads or credit card machines at the table.

That being said, tipping in the US continues to be crucial because, in most states, service workers are paid a base wage that’s often below minimum wageso tips make up a significant portion of their income. Without tips, many of these workers wouldn’t earn a livable wage.

For reference, the majority of states pay workers $2.13 per hourand the rest of their wages are paid out in tips. If the waiter’s tips aren’t enough to equal their state’s minimum wage, then the business is responsible for paying the employee the difference.

At a fast food restaurant in Denverworkers are speaking out about issues, such as employers only giving them a portion of the tips customers leave. Employees reported that they were only receiving 50% of the tips left via credit card.

So, this viral video by Tiktoker @picklejuicelover33 about a tipping situation has amassed over 2 million views. She explained that, after having good banter with a couple she was serving, the man didn’t leave a tip, so she decided to ask if her service was bad. The man accused her of being rude, and she explained that not tipping costs servers money.

Ultimately, the man ended up telling the manager about the situation, and after @picklejuicelover33 refused to apologize, she said she was fired.

This whole situation started a bigger discussion about tipping — one that wasn’t exactly expected…
