Venous blood is widely used in tests To detect several types of diseases And dysfunctions of the human body, but now Swiss researchers want to know how menstrual blood can be used for diagnoses through an AI tampon.
Usually neglected, or considered as disposable, menstrual blood has many blood biomarkers that are important for detecting diseases such as cancer and endometriosis.
This study, which was published in the magazine Advanced Scienceexplains that laboratory analysis made with venous blood is more complex – not only because it is an invasive procedure with the use of needles – but also due to the availability of the patient’s displacement to an environment to be performed.
Thus, AI tampon acts as a rapid test that can provide more autonomy for women in controlling intimate health, as well as being an outpatient screening method made at home by the patient himself.

“Menstruai can revolutionize women’s health by providing a non -invasive, affordable and low -cost health monitoring method, democratizing health care and improving the availability and equity of services,” the researchers say.
Still in the testing phase, the sensor has already shown satisfactory results compared to traditional clinical methods, but other analyzes still need to be performed.
Menstruai is a tampon very similar to those common in pharmacy. The study even did garment test with participants to analyze comfort in everyday activities such as walking, working and exercising low intensity.
The AI tampon has an integrated sensor, inspired by those used in the covid-19 tests, this color strip changes color when reacting with blood biomarkers. The intensity of the color directs to each specific diagnosis.
In this first study, researchers focused on three main biomarkers: C-reactive protein (PCR), an inflammation indicator, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), which is usually associated with some cancers, and carcinogen antigen 125 (CA-125) used to identify cases of ovary and endometriosis cancer.
The results can be read to the naked eye, but reading the absorbent through a photo using the menstruuai app is possible to have more in -depth information as the amount of proteins found in the test.
Even so, scientists point out that the AI tampon does not replace medical examinations. The idea is that menstruai acts as an early warning system, encouraging the search for medical assistance when necessary.
