The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has officially announced the names and logos for its six original franchises. The teams, set to compete in the 2024-25 season, are:
- Boston Fleet
- Minnesota Frost
- Montréal Victoire
- New York Sirens
- Ottawa Charge
- Toronto Sceptres
The PWHL’s vice president of brand and marketing, Kanan Bhatt-Shah, expressed immense pride in the team names and identities, stating that they perfectly capture the spirit of the fans, players, and cities they represent.
Each team name was carefully chosen to reflect the unique characteristics of its respective location. “Fleet” pays homage to Boston’s maritime history, while “Frost” embodies Minnesota’s love for ice and hockey. “Victoire” celebrates Montreal’s pursuit of sporting achievements, and “Sirens” embodies New York City’s energetic spirit. “Charge” references Ottawa’s official motto, and “Sceptres” honors Toronto’s regal history.
To commemorate the team unveilings, the PWHL has launched a merchandise collection featuring collaborations with Peace Collective, a Canadian clothing brand. Additionally, redesigned jerseys from Bauer Hockey, the league’s official jersey partner, will be unveiled closer to the start of the season.
The PWHL’s inaugural season utilized temporary jerseys with basic designs for all six teams. While this caused some concern among fans, league executives emphasized the importance of taking time to develop distinctive team branding.
The league has retained the primary colors from the original jerseys, ensuring continuity for fans who have already purchased merchandise. However, additional colors have been added to each team’s palette to further enhance their identity.
