OpenAi wants to build a ‘physical chatgpt’
Let’s take a step back and recap.
At the end of May, the Open announced the purchase of IOIve (IVE (Designer responsible for Apple’s aesthetics in recent decades). Ive, even, will work together with the developer in developing a physical device equipped with AI.
At the time of the announcement, the company published an open letter about the purchase and a nine -minute video of both executives talking about the plans for the future. What we know so far about the ‘physical chatgpt’:
- Little. Although we know that this is a physical device, there is little information about its format;
- OpenAi CEO Sam Altman has high expectations, having called the developed prototype “the most amazing technology the world has ever seen”;
- Rumors indicate that the device will be compact, without screen and used in the neck;
- Production is scheduled for 2027.
Now, judicial documents presented this month can give new clues about the device. As reported by Digital Looka OpenAi had to erase all materials involving the IO Due to a judicial dispute started by Iyo, hearing aid startup. She claims that the developer (including Sam Altman) knew the existence of her products – and even tested them.
OpenAi said it does not agree with the complaint and is analyzing options, but for now, it had to obey the withdrawal of materials. It was precisely the documents of this process that revealed more details about the ‘physical chatgpt’.

We already know what the physical chatgpt will not be
The process claims that OpenAi knew of the existence of Iyo products. So if you were working on something similar… it would be a problem.
The documents involved in the lawsuit include statements from employees of the developer’s hardware team (coming from the newly published IO). They witnessed that the physical device will not be an “intrauricular device” or a “wearable” – That is, they are not imitating Iyo.
But that has already been considered. The startup accusation says that OpenAi knew the existence of its products and has even asked to test them. The developer defends herself that IO researched existing commercial offerings for many months and was involved in prototype tests, “considering a wide range of formats, including desktop objects and mobile, with and wireless, weather and portable devices.”
Even at the end of March, an internal email of an employee named Marwan Rammah a Tang Tan, IO hardware director and former Apple design leader, also revealed that the intention to create an earphone existed. In the document, Rammah says they should consider the purchase of 3D scanning of human ears.
However, another email, this time from Altman, denied the possibility of investing in the headphones.
Do you have a physical chatgpt date?
In a statement of June 12, obtained by the The VergeTang Tan was incisive: The ‘physical chatgpt’ design is not finalized, “but it is not an intrauricular device or a wearable device”.
