The Government of Pakistan said on Saturday (21) that it intends to nominate the name of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026, in recognition of the US leader during the negotiations of ceasefire between Pakistan and India, announced in May this year.
“President Trump has shown great strategic clairvoyance and excellent political skill through strong diplomatic engagement with Islamabad and New Delhi, who worsened a rapidly deteriorated situation,” the country said in a statement this morning. “This intervention is proof of your role as a genuine peacemaker,” the text concludes.
According to information obtained by the Reuters news agency, some analysts on the Pakistani side expect the movement to prevent Trump from officially to join Israel in the conflict against Iran, which, according to them, would bring “a great threat to stability” of the region.
The White House has not yet positioned itself about the Pakistani proposal, but Donald Trump has always made clear the desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize,” Trump complained earlier this month. “I deserve it, but they will never give me.”
Who can appoint candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize?
Representatives of national parliaments and governments, university professors of certain areas, members of the International Court and the Permanent Arbitration Court, and previous winners of the Nobel Peace Prize and Nobel Committee members may appoint candidates.
Indications are sent in writing to the Nobel Peace Committee, usually until the end of January of each year.
