Future oil contracts and futures of the main New York rates react in opposite directions after the announcement of ceasefire between Israel and Iran, made by US President Donald Trump, on Monday (23).
New York futures operate high high, with Dow Jones rising 0.37%, S&P 500 advancing 0.44%and the future NASDAQ up 0.61%. The indices had already ended the day in positive territory, even after the US entry into the conflict and the Iran’s missile launch against an American air base at Qatar.
At 7:34 pm (Brasília time), future oil contracts were traded at US $ 70.65 per barrel, with a drop of 8.26%. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil from the United States recorded $ 65.41 per barrel, with a 4.51%decrease.
The fall also follows the movement observed throughout the day, when oil prices intensified the losses and closed at a strong low, as investors began to minimize the risk of interruption in the supply of oil in the Middle East.
The expectation of the investors was that the attacks would not trigger such a broad rupture, which may be confirmed as soon as the ceasefire is officially confirmed by Israel and Iran, as well as the terms announced by President Trump.
