Instead of denying climate science directly, these more subtle strategies aim to discredit solutions – especially clean energies – by promoting doubts and distortions about their effectiveness and impacts.
How tactics work

The report points to former President Donald Trump as an example of disinformation dissemination, repeating unfounded allegations on wind turbines and trying to reverse environmental commitments in the US.
“We are dealing with a deliberately distorted information environment,” warns Klaus Bruhn Jensen, president of the IPIE panel.
Synthesis is based on 300 studies over a decade, although it recognizes limitations for focusing on research in English and rich countries. The document reinforces the urgency of combating misleading narratives that prevent effective climate action.
