“I have no doubt that the US is totally committed to NATO, fully committed to Article 5,” Rutte told Reporters in The Hague.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Tuesday that he has no doubt that the United States is committed to the mutual defense clause of Article 5 of the Alliance, after the comments of US President Donald Trump have launched new questions about their willingness to protect the allies.
On his way to an NATO dome in The Hague, Trump said there were “numerous” definitions of Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which states that an attack on a NATO member should be considered an attack on all of them.
“I have no doubt that the US is totally committed to NATO, fully committed to Article 5,” Rutte told Reporters in The Hague.
