Title: Fun little phone.
Review: You might be looking at this and saying: “that looks just like the SOYES phones I’ve seen elsewhere.” Well, this is in fact a SOYES phone. The sticker on the box even says SOYES.Though, the ones you see at most other places are the low tier model with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, while this one is the mid-range model with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. There also exists a “high” end model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, but as far as I can tell it doesn’t actually exist and I’ve never seen it for sale anywhere. Now for people who don’t know, SOYES phones are pretty much just miniaturized copies of popular flagship phones but with much lower specs and price.Based on the name on the sticker you would expect this to be a mini clone of the Huawei P60 Pro, but it’s actually a mini clone of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro, right down to the camera design, color selection, and pattern. The phone itself is absolutely tiny. It’s about the size of a typical plastic credit card or gift card. I put it next to an Amazon gift card but for whatever reason the photo never seems to upload, but believe me, this phone is TINY.If you look closely at the cameras, you’ll notice 3 of them are just fake plastic dummy sensors, only the top left sensor is real, along with the flash. The speaker holes on the bottom are also fake, the single hole there is for the microphone. The only speaker on the phone is the one on the earpiece. One thing I dislike about the speaker is that even on the lowest volume setting it’s still quite loud. This can be mitigated in some apps if they have their own volume setting. The phone also has a card tray with a dedicated SIM tray in Slot 1, and a second SIM or microSD in Slot 2 (max 64GB), standard fare for phones in Asia.I plugged in my SIM card and the phone was able to recognize it instantly and I was able to text and call with no problems. Your mileage may vary if you actually intend to use this as a cell phone, make sure to check which bands it supports, and which bands your carrier uses. There is also no 3.5mm headphone jack, despite the fact that the phone comes with an FM radio app that requires a pair of 3.5mm earphones to act as an antenna. At least you can just uninstall it to get rid of it, along with Facebook, Twitter, etc. SOYES probably just uses the same stock OS image for all of their phones, regardless of their hardware and features. The default launcher is really poorly made, and lacks even basic features like an app menu. In other words, if you ever remove an app from the home menu, it’s gone for good. The only way to access that app again is to pull down from the top, open settings, go to apps, find the app, open its info page, and launch it from there. That or uninstall the app and reinstall it, but that’s not an option for system apps. The final option of course being the nuclear option of doing a factory reset. Save yourself the headache and just install a 3rd party launcher and use that from the start. The CPU specs aren’t mentioned in the listing but it is a MediaTek Helio P22 MT6762V/CN originally released in 2018.While there’s almost no information about it online, not even from MediaTek, checking device stats shows it supports the ARM64-v8a ABI, so it is in fact a 64-bit CPU and will support any modern apps.Performance on the other hand is another matter.Even back in 2018 the MT6762 was a budget CPU, so in 2025 it’s pretty outdated. At this point in it’s life cycle this CPU is sold by the dozen for a dollar from chip vendors. With the phone completely stock, the phone lags quite a bit playing Youtube videos.I ended up installing Blokada, disabled and uninstalled a lot of useless apps, as well as installed Brave. With all that done the phone actually runs pretty decently playing Youtube videos now.Just for the heck of it, I also installed PizzaBoy and it actually runs great, which shouldn’t be too surprising since the MT6762 is used in some retro handheld devices, along with tons of budget phones, smart watches, and IoT devices.Browsing through the system settings, I found the phone actually easily allows you to unlock the bootloader. Though, it has no custom ROMs anywhere, so it’s not really all that useful as it would be on a flagship phone.Sadly it doesn’t seem like the phone has ever had an update since its release, and likely never will, but that’s par for the course for most cheap phones.Lastly, touching on security concerns people might have with obscure brands, I’ve used the phone for several days now, and monitoring all the traffic through Blokada and I’ve not seen any unusual traffic.Theoretically, you could use this as your primary phone, but it feels quite cramped unless you have very tiny hands or slim fingers. Tried to give as much information as possible about this phone as there’s very little out there. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it or not for whatever price it’s selling at currently.
