The UN ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, accused the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) on Sunday and the omission of the US and Israel attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. In a speech to the Security Council, the diplomat stated that the offensive exposed the “moral, political and legal failure” of the international collective security system.
“The eight decades mission of war prevention and aggression is empty and without power in practice,” Iravani said, criticizing the security council for not being able to prevent the climb. According to him, the international community has been duly informed of risks since the beginning of hostilities, but did not act in a preventive way. The Iranian representative also questioned the role of AIEA, stating that director-general Rafael Grossi remained silent on the threat to the facilities under his supervision.
“The attack on Iran’s nuclear places, under the safety of the AIEA, is a disgrace that will remain as a stain in the credibility of these international organizations,” he said. Iravani stated that Iran was the subject of an illegal action conducted by two UN member states, one of them signatory to the Nuclear Non -Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the other, Israel, not subjected to any international inspection regime.

Throughout the speech, the diplomat also cited previous episodes involving the US, such as interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, to say that the attack on Iran is part of an American policy of systematic disrespect to international law. “From illegal invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan to catastrophic intervention in Libya, the United States has ignored the UN treaty and endured the region for decades,” he said.
Iravani stressed that Iran will continue to defend their peaceful nuclear program and asked the other members of the Council to condemn the bombing unequivocally. According to him, the lack of international reaction can open precedent for new violations of sovereignty of other countries. “If the Security Council fails again, the credibility of the United Nations and the regime of non -proliferation will be irreversibly compromised,” he concluded.
