The National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), considered the preview of official inflation, advanced 0.26% in June, after a 0.36% increase in May, according to data released on Thursday (26) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The number was slightly below expected. The expectation of consensus Reuters was of a monthly increase of 0.30% and annual advance of 5.31%.
The group of highest impact on the index was housing, with 1.08% and 0.16 percentage point, followed by clothing (0.51%). Already the food and beverage group recorded the first drop (-0.02%), after nine consecutive months of discharge.
The sub -items of the highest positive impact on the index were residential electricity, with a feed of 3.29% and a contribution of 0.13 pp, influenced by the change in the tariff flag. Then come ground coffee (2.86%), urban bus (1.39%), water and sewage rate (0.94%), meal (0.60%) and health plan (0.57%), all with an impact of 0.02 pp
The biggest negative impacts came from home feed, especially tomato prices (-7.24%), chicken egg (-6.95%) and rice (-3.44%), all with 0.2 pp the drop in gasoline prices (-0.52%) was responsible for 0.3 pp of the IPCA-15.
The IPCA-E, quarterly accumulated IPCA-15, was 1.05%, close to the 1.04% rate recorded in the same period last year. Over the past 12 months, IPCA-15 has accumulated high of 5.27%, below 5.40% observed in the immediately previous 12 months. In June 2024, the rate was 0.39%.
