Google Photos resumes with more speed and performance IA

After temporarily suspending the release of the “Ask Photos” feature (or “asking photos”) due to performance failures, Google has announced improvements that promise to make the tool faster and more efficient.

The company states in a blog post have integrated the speed of the classic search for Google Photos To the new AI resource, especially for simple queries such as “beach” or “dogs”.

  • Originally presented at last year’s I/O conference, Ask Photos uses the Gemini model to allow natural language searches within the user gallery.
  • Technology analyzes both the visual content of the images and metadata to answer questions.
  • However, users reported slowness and inconsistent answers, which led Google to pause the release.
  • According to Jamie Aspinall, Google Pictures Product Manager, the tool did not meet the desired latency and quality standards, which is why it was temporarily withdrawn for adjustments.

Update returns efficiency and typical speed

With the updates, the initial results are now displayed almost instantly, while AI works in the background to refine and customize the answers.

For example, when searching for a “white dog”, the system delivers images quickly and then complements with data such as name and dates if registered.

The tool is returned to gradually made available in the US, only for users over 18 years old with an English account language and activated face groups.
