Family informs that missing Brazilian tourist in Indonesia was found dead

An Instagram account attributed to the family of Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins reported, on Tuesday (24), that the young woman was found dead in Indonesia. Juliana had been missing since the weekend, when she suffered a fall during a walk on Mount Rinjani, one of the active volcanoes of Lombok Island, a popular tourist destination in the Asian country.

“With immense regret, we report that Juliana was found lifeless,” says the publication made on the profile “@julianamarinsdesdesparecida”, created to centralize information about the search. The post also thanks the support messages and mobilizations of friends and strangers in recent days.

Steep ground and hostile climate challenged the rescue

Rescue operations faced extreme conditions. The region is marked by steep ground, strong fog that reduces visibility and slippery stones caused by the serene. The exact place where Juliana was – about 500 meters deep in a cliff – made access extremely difficult even for specialized teams.

In the first two days, drones with thermal sensors were used, but to no avail. Juliana was only located on the morning of Monday (23), still with signs of life, although immobile. Initial information that she had received supplies was denied by her sister, Mariana Marins.

On Tuesday (24), a helicopter took to the place a special rescue team from Basarna, the National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia. The complexity of the operation has prevented strings from being used effectively due to the unevenness and adverse weather conditions.

“Slips” mountain below

Juliana fell from a height of about 300 meters after stumbling during the trail. According to family reports, she could still move her arms and look up, but her body slowly slipped through the slope. A drone even located it 500 meters below the apparently still trail. However, relatives deny that she has remained exactly at this point ever since.

Family faces obstacles to accompany rescue

The young woman’s father, Manoel Marins Filho, had difficulty reaching Indonesia. He was retained at Lisbon airport due to the closure of the Airspace of Qatar, one of the routes used by flights to Southeast Asia.

Juliana was pole dance professional dancer and, according to friends, realized the “dream of traveling through Asia”. Itamaraty reported that it follows the case through the Brazilian embassy in Jakarta and provides assistance to the family.
