Camera Commission criticizes Itamaraty by a statement condemning US attacks on Iran

The Foreign Relations and National Defense Commission of the House of Representatives criticized Itamaraty’s stance by condemning US attacks on Iran. According to the commission, the note released on Sunday, 22, republished by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), is “unfortunate”.

On social networks, Itamaraty has classified recent attacks from Israel and the United States against Iranian nuclear facilities as a “violation of sovereignty” of Iran and international law. The ministry said the attacks “represent a serious threat to the life and health of civilian populations, to expose them to the risk of radioactive contamination and large-scale environmental disasters.”

For the committee chaired by Deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR), Itamaraty’s stance reflects an alignment of Brazil with Iran. The deputy criticized the Brazilian position justifying that the US attack was “brave and necessary”, as the destruction of the Iranian nuclear program was “desired by much of the world”.

“Today Brazil has been very diligent when it is to condemn Israel and the US, but extremely omitted when it comes to recognizing as terrorists, organizations funded by Iran, and publicly defending the destruction of the State of Israel,” said the Foreign Relations and National Defense Commission.

According to the committee’s chairman, the next deliberative meeting of the collegiate will guide a motion of support and solidarity to Israel. “This stance is unfortunate that breaks with a tradition of high neutrality,” said the deputy.

In addition, Filipe Barros also filed a request for a public hearing on the allegations of disappearance of Brazil.

The National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN), responsible for the Brazilian nuclear program, said, however, that there has never been an uranium export to Iran. The public company Nuclear Industries of Brazil (INB), which explores the material in the country, also denies that Iran is one of its customers. INB provides uranium mainly to Eletronuclear, a national energy supply company.

The Federal Constitution and the Treaty of Nuclear Non -Proliferation (TNP) – of which Brazil has been a signatory since 1998 – prohibit uranium exploitation for war purposes.

The attacks on the Iranian plant were motivated by accusations from the United States and Israel that the Iranian government would be secretly developing nuclear weapons.

The Iran attack campaign began after a report by the United Nations (UN) identifying high levels of uranium enrichment in Iranian nuclear facilities.
