At least nine civilians were killed and another 13 were injured on Sunday in a “suicide attack” perpetrated by an alleged member of the Islamic State Terrorist Group (IS) against the Mar Elias Church in Damascus, the capital of Syria, the Ministry of Health said.
“Nine civilians were killed and 13 were injured in the initial balance of the terrorist attack targeted by the Dweileh Mar Church in Damascus,” the department said in a brief statement issued by the Syrian official news agency “Sana”.
In turn, the Interior Ministry informed the agency that “a bomb man affiliated with terrorist organization EI” entered the church, where “opened fire and detonated his explosive vest”, killing several civilians and hurting others.
