The United States are willing to accept an Iran’s Civil Nuclear Program, as long as the country does not enrich uranium in its own territory, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday. In an interview with CBS, Rubio also denied that American goal is a change of regime in Tehran.
“Any country in the world is entitled to Civil Nuclear Program. What they are not entitled to is to enrich at 60%, hide on a mountain and develop missiles,” Rubio said. According to him, Iran may have reactors for electricity and import enriched material, such as “dozens of countries in the world.”
Rubio stated that Saturday’s attacks were not aimed at change of regime. “It was not an attack on Iran or the Iranian people. It was not thrown into change of regime. It was to degrade three nuclear facilities related to nuclearization ambitions,” he said. The targets were facilities of Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

The secretary revealed that Trump gave 60 days to the Iranian Supreme Leader to negotiate before the attacks. “President wrote letter to the Supreme Leader saying: In the next 60 days we want agreement. If we have not seen progress, we have other alternatives,” he said. Entrepreneur Steve Witkoff negotiated via the Government of Oman, with a “very generous” proposal presented in writing.
Rubio contested intelligence assessments of the absence of Iranian political order for nuclear weapons. “Irrelevant question. No matter if order has been given. They have everything they need to build nuclear weapons,” he said. For him, Iran already has 60%enriched uranium, missile and infrastructure required.
The secretary suggested that Iran delivered inventory of uranium enriched to other countries to dilute. “What they should do is bring underground material and deliver. Several countries in the world will accept and dilute,” he said.
