Man arrested after attempting to enter Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman’s home

A man was arrested after attempting to enter Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman’s home on June 25, two law enforcement sources said.

A Milwaukee Police Department spokesperson said a 67-year-old man was seen trying to gain entry to a home at around 7:14 p.m., before he was arrested. Two firearms were found in the area, the spokesperson’s email said.

The spokesperson declined to confirm the address of the incident was Norman’s, citing victim’s rights law. However, property records show Norman owns a home on the block a police spokesperson cited, and the law enforcement sources confirmed the incident occurred at his home.

Norman was not home at the time, the sources said.

Police officials have referred the case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office and continue to investigate, the spokesperson said.

Norman could not be immediately reached for comment.

The incident happened the day before Norman’s reappointment as police chief was set to be voted on by the Fire and Police Commission, the hiring body for the position.

This is not the first time a police chief’s home has been subject to a crime.

Former Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales’ home was shot into in 2017 and resulted in a 22-year-old man being sentenced to six years in prison.
