The Union Attorney General (AGU) stated in a statement issued on the morning of Thursday, 29, that the government has not yet made a decision about judicializing the defeat suffered in Congress, where the proposal that would raise the tax on Financial Operations (IOF) was overturned.
The agency also stressed that the legal issues will be addressed “technically by AGU, after hearing the economic team” and that a possible judicialization of the case will be communicated exclusively by the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias.
“The Union Attorney General informs that, in response to the media news about the judicialization of the IOF decree, that there is no decision made and that all legal issues will be technically addressed by AGU, after hearing from the economic team.
Communication on any legal consequences of the case will be made exclusively by the attorney general, at the appropriate time, ”says the note released.
The note was released after Finance Minister Fernando Haddad states in an interview with S.Paulo Folha that the government studies three possibilities to respond to the overthrow of the decree.
The alternatives, according to him, involve going to court against the decision of Congress, Seek a new source of revenue or make a new budget cut that reaches everyone.
