The family of Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins, who died in Indonesia days after falling on the slope of a volcano, criticized the slowness of the rescue operation, before the autopsy that is scheduled for this Thursday to determine the time of death.
26 -year -old Juliana disappeared on Saturday in Indonesia’s second largest volcano, Mount Rinjani, located on Lombok Island. Attempts to rescue Juliana were harmed by the challenging climate and the injured terrain, after authorities located her immovable body with a drone.
Rescue teams finally reached their body on Tuesday night after a several day effort, and recovered it on Wednesday.

The family believes that Juliana could have been saved if she had been reached in a few hours, not days.
“Juliana suffered great negligence on the part of the rescue team. If the team had come to her on the estimated 7 am, Juliana would still be alive, ”the family wrote on Wednesday in an Instagram account that accumulates more than one million followers.
“Juliana deserved a lot more! Now we go after justice for her, because that’s what she deserves! Don’t give up Juliana!” The message adds.

In a message published on Thursday, the family thanked “volunteers who, with courage, were willing to collaborate for Juliana’s rescue process to be streamlined.”
National Agency Director ‘explains’ rescue to the family
Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency director Mohammad Syafii said on Wednesday night that he met with Juliana’s family to explain the challenges of the rescue.
Indonesian authorities said the Brazilian’s body will be transported to the neighboring island Bali on Thursday to an autopsy, which should determine the cause and time of death.

“The autopsy will take place in Bali. We look for the nearest option, which is Denpasar,” said Indah Dhamayanti Putri, deputy governor of West Nusa Tenggara province, citing the capital of Bali. “They want to know the time of death.”
Initial reports that Juliana was heard screaming after the fall caused the speculation that she would be alive hours after the accident. But a drone located it without moving on Monday, and local authorities said the rescue operation was postponed due to the steep ground and bad weather.
The case provoked a commotion in Brazil. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva declared on social networks that he received the news of Juliana’s death “with great sadness”.

Lombok Island is a tourist destination known for its paradisiacal beaches and green landscapes, and many visitors try to climb Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s second highest volcano, attracted by their panoramic view.
In 2018, hundreds of gauge and guides were blocked by landslides on the mountain after a magnitude earthquake 6.4 shook the island. At least 17 people died, including one on the mountain.
