GLENVIEW, Ill. (WGN) — A portion of the Tri-State Tollway was shut down early Wednesday morning following a deadly wrong-way crash overnight in the northwest suburbs.
The two-vehicle crash unfolded just before 2 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-294, near Golf Road in Glenview.

According to Illinois State Police troopers, one of the drivers involved was allegedly heading south in the northbound lanes of the tollway when they crashed into another vehicle heading in the proper direction.
Troopers said the driver of the vehicle that was allegedly traveling the wrong way was pronounced dead on the scene. The second driver involved was injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries is unclear.
Authorities have not identified the driver killed.

Because of the crash, crews shut down all northbound lanes of I-294 from East Dempster Street to Willow Road, but all lanes reoprened by 7 a.m.
